Motorcycling in Kent-Sussex offers a great mix of natural beauty and historical charm.
The winding roads winding through picturesque villages and green hills make this region a perfect destination for a few days away.
Be enchanted by the picturesque landscape of South East England. Cliffs, coastal areas, orchards, picturesque villages, romantic gardens, country houses, cottages, churches and castles; it is hard not to fall in love with this region. The typical narrow country roads and the many bends and height differences are great. This trip is truly 'one of a kind'!
Please note: due to Brexit, a valid passport is required for travel to the UK!
The route to the ferry and from the ferry back home is on your own initiative.
Day route 1: Dover - Frensham | 225 / 230 km
The journey starts with the ferry to Dover. It is also possible to stay overnight close to the harbour, so you don't have to leave home earlier, just let team Horizon Motorcycle Travel know. After about two hours of sailing, the white cliffs of Dover loom up, which you can also visit. Pay attention to driving on the left from now on! Soon you will arrive at Dover Castle. Also worth a visit. You drive from there through all small villages to the busier Folkstone where the Channel Tunnel train lands. Here you go into the green nature with wide views over the glowing fields. On the way, you pass several old churches that are worth visiting. The typical English landscape is unique in Europe and an experience in itself. Flanked by the old villages you pass on your way, you get your first impressions of England. You drive all the way to the hotel, where you can relax with a nice drink and a good meal.
Please take note: if you live in England or Ireland, the ferry crossing to Dover is not necessary. Therefore, the price will be slightly cheaper. Does this apply to you? Then please send an email to info@horizonmotorcycletravel.com or call: +31 (0) 493 320 235.
Day route 2: Brighton & South Downs National Park | 265 / 337 km
Today you can choose between a short or long route. The long route has an extra loop on the west side of the South Downs National Park. This park is known for its undulating landscapes, green fields and white chalk cliffs. After 50 kilometres of winding country roads, you arrive at the Moto Café. A nice place to talk to other motorcyclists about your bike, many enthusiasts come here. The views alternate from wide to narrow. The roads also change from straight to winding and because of the vegetation along the side, you can sometimes ride through a beautiful typical English green tunnel. When you leave the national park, you enter Brighton and come face to face with the sea again. Brighton is the Scheveningen of England. After Brighton, you drive into a quieter area, which is a nice contrast to the hustle and bustle of the countryside. On these nice roads, you drive back to the hotel. Just before the hotel, you come across a picturesque beach, want to take a dip?
Day route 3: Stonehenge & Cranborne Chase | 250 / 343 km
Again you can decide to take the short or long route today. During the short route you can visit Stonehenge, Salisbury and/or Winchester. The long route makes an extra loop through the Cranborne Chase. Lots to see today! We start with a single track through Frensham. You come to Brighton Road, a very cool track. After a rain shower, watch out for the stones it can be slippery on the English roads. That afternoon you can visit "Stonehenge". This is the world's most famous prehistoric monument. The first construction dates back to 5000 years ago. After this, you drive into the Cransborn Chase AONB (Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty). One of 7 major nature reserves in England. On the way back you drive via Winchester and if you have some time left, this is a nice place to visit. It is an ancient city with a very large cathedral that can be visited. Otherwise, take a slightly faster "dual carriage way" back to the evening dinner.
Day route 4: Briling Gap, White Cliffs and Rye to Dover | 246 km
It is already the last day, but don't worry! There is still a nice day waiting. Start on time because the ferry leaves at 4.00 pm. Today, you will cross the Southdowns for the very last time and drive along a beautiful road to New Haven. In the harbour take a look at the canon that is stationed high on the hill. From the harbour, you drive over the "White Cliffs" to Birling Gap. Feel free to stop here and walk from one of the many parking places to view the huge cliffs. You can do this at several places and in most cases after ±50m you stand on the edge of such an impressive cliff. A nice place for a good lunch is in the town of Rye, where at low tide the harbour falls dry and the boats lie in the sand. From here, the roads to the ferry are a bit easier to ride. From Dunkirk you can find your way home.
It is also possible to book this trip with Shuttle Calais - Folkestone. The additional cost of this shuttle is €50.00 per rider.
