FAQ
Bookings
How do I book a tour?
How far in advance should I make a booking?
For our individual tours, we did not reserve any hotels in advance, so we depend on the availability of the hotel(s). After receiving a booking, we request the hotel(s) for you. A last-minute booking can be more difficult in terms of availability, but we will start working on your booking immediately.
How and when do I pay for my booked trip?
After receiving your booking confirmation, it may take up to 14 working days before you receive the invoice. This invoice will include all payment details. We require a 20% deposit on all tours, which must be paid no later than two weeks after you received the invoice. For trips with motorbike rental, ferry crossings and flights, we require a deposit of 30%. The remaining payment is due six weeks before departure at the latest. You have to take care of this yourself, you will not receive an extra e-mail about the final payment.
Payments are made by bank transfer.
Can I add a travel insurance to my booked trip?
We do not offer travel insurance. However, we do recommend arranging this independently with your insurer before the start of your tour.
Travel documents and routes
When will I receive the travel information for my booked trip?
Once the payment has been completed, you will receive all travel information at least three weeks before your departure date. In this travel information you can find all travel documents such as routes, roadbook, hotel voucher(s) or accommodation information, checklist, etc.
How do I receive the routes of my booked tour?
When you book a tour with us, you will receive the routes with the travel documents no later than three weeks before departure. We always send the routes and tracks in GPX format. We will also send you a manual, describing exactly how to trasnfer the routes into your TomTom and Garmin. The routes that you will receive, are compressed in a ZIP file, which means you need to unpack them. You can, for example, use 7-ZIP to do this.
It is possible to load the routes onto your phone. However, you have to take care of this yourself. We can only recommend the paid version of the TomTom Go App for this.
View the manuals here:
What should I do if routes loading fails?
If, despite our instructions, you do not succeed in loading the routes into your navigation system, please contact our office on +31 (0) 493 230 235. We will be happy to help you over the phone. Pleae make sure you have downloaded TeamViewer onto your PC beforehand. We can watch your PC from our office and load the routes for you.
Can I also buy individual day routes from Horizon Motorcycle Travel?
No, we only sell package holidays. So it is not possible to only buy the day routes of a trip from us. There is only one exception: the Five Countries Roadtrip, which only includes the day routes.
Vignettes, environmental stickers, tolls and other details for routes?
The above items do not apply as long as you stay on our routes. However, if you deviate from the routes, you may need to take care of this yourself.
If your motorbike produces more than 95dB of noise, we also have alternative routes for this. This applies, for example, when booking our trip to Vorarlberg, Austria.
Cancellations and changes
Can I change my booking?
Should any changes occur after booking and receiving your invoice, we will charge a fee. Examples of changes include booking an extra night at an accommodation, adding an extra passenger, changing license plates for a ferry crossing, etc.
The standard charge for this is € 50,- per change. Changes for an entire booking can be made until the 42nd day before departure if it concerns reducing the number of travellers or changing the travel dates. From the 42nd day onwards, the cancellation conditions will apply.
I have to cancel my trip, what should I do now?
If you have to cancel your tour due to circumstances, you must notify us in writing an e-mail. We will then process your cancellation and you will receive a credit invoice. We apply our general terms and conditions.
If you receive a partial refund from us, you will also receive a credit note. The amount to be received will then be refunded within 10 working days. You can submit any cancellation costs incurred to your insurance company, if applicable.

Dirty Roads tours
What does a Dirty Roads tour mean?
In our Dirty Roads tours, most of the routes consist of unpaved roads. These are roads that are not paved or asphalted. This way, you will discover areas of Europe in an adventurous, sporty way.
For all our off-road tours, we also offer a paved road route for each day. In bad weather, it is more responsible to take this route or when you have less energy for a day.
Which bike and tyres are suitable for a Dirty Roads tour?
Our Dirty Roads tours are suitable for all all-road motorbikes. Of course, the lighter the bike, the easier it is to ride on dirt roads.
The right tyres can significantly improve your bike's performance and provide better grip and control on unpaved and rough terrain. Adventure-touring tyres are recommended for riding our routes. Of course, make sure you start your journey with a new set of tyres.
Can I refuel my bike, drink and have lunch on the way?
Yes! But of course, there are a lot fewer options along the way than if you drive on paved roads. Sometimes you will encounter nothing for 150km. That is why it is important that you travel well prepared. Some essentials that will make your trip easier are:
- Tank bag
- Drinking backpack/water bag
- Tyre repair kit (including compressor)
- Something to eat for the road, think packaged biscuits or a piece of fruit
- Basic tools for when you need to make minor repairs after a fall. Also think of duct tape, rope, tie wraps and powerbank
What should I do if my bike breaks down and need help?
Breakdowns can always happen and are very annoying, especially when you are stranded in the middle of nowhere.
If you are travelling individually, it is important that you go to a place with phone coverage. That way, you can call your insurance or another assistance agency. It is important to check your insurance beforehand. For minor problems such as a flat tyre, a repair kit is recommended so you do not have to depend on third parties.
