Sun, sea and pearly white beaches. This island is of course perfect for a round trip. If you choose Corsica, you choose a very rich nature, great roads, a wonderful climate, incredibly beautiful places, breathtaking views and a lot of culture and history.
While the west coast is rugged, the east coast consists mainly of pearly white sandy beaches. In the north, you have Cap Corse, a mountain range with peaks of over 2700 m, while the south consists of cliffs, rocks and caves. And we haven't even mentioned the many charming medieval villages and towns or the countless passes and gorges, mountain lakes, chestnut forests, waterfalls and rapids. You will be amazed during this tour!
The outward journey (first day) and return journey (last day) you will drive on your own initiative.
Day route 1: Propriano | 200 / 210 km
Today you will be up early to drive to Livorno. The ferry leaves at 08:00h, so be on time. The crossing takes about four hours to Bastia.
As you approach the island, you already get an impression of the impressive Cap Corse peninsula, where there is almost always a breeze. When you drive off the ferry, the beginning of the trip is still quite busy. The further you drive away from the city, the quieter it gets. The difference between the short & long route is only 10 km today, but it does make a difference of one and a half hours. At kilometre 90, you can choose between a thorough road to the hotel or a really cool shortcut. Here is the difference of one and a half hours. Today, you are treated to beautiful views of the sea, but also of the green mountains.
Day route 2: Lopigna - Piana | 209 / 316 km
Today the choice of two routes, of four and six hours of steering respectively. You climb above 1,000m altitude for the first time today. The first part is along the coast to enter the mountains after 20 kilometres or so. You ride on beautiful curved roads through the green mountains. Later that morning, you enter the village of Ajaccio. Ajaccio has a small harbour. This is a very nice place for a coffee and croissant, we really are in France after all. As you continue your way, the routes split at kilometre 90. The long route here follows the coast for quite a while, the short route meanders inland. That afternoon, you'll pass the red rocks. These are mighty, jagged mountains that you drive between. The tarmac here has all been renewed, great for riding! The long route is intense but very beautiful.
Day route 3: Bonifacio | 285 km
Day route 3 takes you on a loop south to beautiful Bonifacio. This is one of the most beautiful routes, because of the steering combined with the road surface and the many beautiful views. Once in Bonifacio, you can continue to the Haute Ville, this is where the short and long routes differ. In clear weather, you have a view of the Italian island of Sardinia. Bonifacio sits on a massive rock, eighty metres higher than the sea. After Bonifacio, you drive towards Porto-Vecchio and through Zonza via a beautiful mountain pass. This area is known for climbing, rafting and hiking. You pass the village of Aullène and drive back towards the hotel in Propriano. Weather permitting, you can still enjoy the pool.
Day route 4: Bastia | 213 / 254 km
On this day, you drive to your second hotel in Corsica, which is located in Bastia. You drive on quiet roads, facing the mountains and nature. Highlights of today's route are the Col de Vaccia (1,193m), Col de Verde (1,289m) and Col de Sorba (1,311m). The roads are sometimes a bit narrow but really worth the effort. The last part of the route takes you towards the coast to the hotel. If you choose the long route, you will swing through the woods and pass several villages. On the way to the hotel, you pass the nature reserve De l'Etang de Biguglia. Your hotel is situated between the sea and this nature reserve. This hotel also has a swimming pool where you can take a dip.
Day route 5: Porto & Calvi | 321 / 372 km
Today's route takes you to the western side of Corsica to see the beautiful coastline and, of course, some of the northern interior. Another top day ahead with lots of fun steering accompanied by beautiful and varied views. After leaving the hotel, the short and long routes split immediately at km 8. The difference is that the long route goes over a lot of winding roads and the short one runs on a more thorough road. The continuation of the short and long route goes to Calvi. A nice village with good patisserie and café for a good stop. After this, you ride on a beautiful road along the west coast of the peninsula. Via a road with a high cornering density, you drive back to the hotel.
Day route 6: Cap Corse | 162 / 229 km
Day route 6 will take you to the west side of Corsica to see the beautiful coastline there and of course part of the northern interior. The routes are a lot shorter than yesterday. Enough time for a stop or photo opportunities. Again, a great day ahead of us with a lot of nice curves accompanied by beautiful and varied views. Cap Corse is the northern part of the island, the peninsula is about 40 kilometres long and 10 kilometres wide. The difference between short and long are some extra laps in the north of the peninsula. Enjoy your last day in Corsica!
Day 7: Ferry Bastia – Pisa 50km
The last day of the trip. It is ten minutes from the hotel to the ferry, which leaves at 14:00. The last check-in is at the latest at noon. Before then, you can enjoy the beautiful Bastia. When you arrive back in Livorno, drive back to the hotel in Pisa. After dinner, you still have the opportunity to briefly visit the centre of Pisa.
