Beautiful views over amazing vineyards. Great steering in this beautiful area!
The Mosel: this river area is the perfect location for a few days away. It is surprisingly beautiful and the winding roads make it a great area to explore on your motorbike!
This trip focuses on the over 500 km long Moselle River in Germany. The river plays a major role in the wine landscape, which we will explore during this trip. The green wine slopes are very steep in several places. Although this is difficult for the wine growers, it does result in beautiful views. If it makes you interested: from mid-July to the beginning of October, there are many wine festivals here.
The outward journey (first day) and return journey (last day) you will drive on your own initiative.
Day route 1: Mosel & Hunsrück | 290 / 386 km
From the hotel you start your tour along the Moselstrasse and follow it until you pass the village of Treis-Karden. You will cross the Mosel by bridge towards the village Pommern, one of the oldest wine villages of the Mosel. You will continue the route with some hairpin bends to climb the hill along the Mosel. At the top of the hill you will continue to ride parallel to the Moselle and via a beautiful winding road you will drive down towards the tourist attraction of the Moselle: Cochem. Cochem has a very pleasant market square and picturesque streets with shops and restaurants. You continue your route along the Moselle with beautiful views on both sides. You will cross the Mosel again to the hotel.
Day route 2: Mosel & Rhine | 240 / 330 km
The route starts the same way as yesterday, towards Treis-Karden and over the hills towards Cochem. You will not reach Cochem itself, but will pass above it. On very winding roads with good quality roads, you now drive towards Kastellaun, before you reach Kastellaun you pass the village Mörsdorf, which is known for the Geierlay suspension bridge. The longest and most spectacular pedestrian bridge in Germany, definitely a must for people who are not afraid of heights. You will be treated to spectacular views while crossing this footbridge. You continue the route in the direction of Kastellaun, here you have several possibilities to make a coffee stop at the market square. From here, you take the slightly larger roads with wider bends towards the Rhine. You cross the Rhine with a ferry at Niederheimbach to Lorch, this town is definitely worth a visit. The town consists mainly of medieval alleys, wineries, half-timbered houses and terraces. You continue your way back to the hotel with again beautiful views.
Day route 3: North Mosel | 285 / 332 km
The last day route will take you north of the Mosel, where you will see a part of the "Vulkan Eifel". Just before entering Cochem, the route takes you into the hills near the village of Klotten. You drive further north towards the village Adenau, this village is known for the infamous Nordschleife of the Nürburgring. The Nordschleife of the Nürburgring you pass again on the way back to the hotel, nice to take a look or to make a lap. Be aware that you will not be the only one and that there will be many inexperienced motorists and motorcyclists among the 'racers'. The rest of the route also has a large variety of beautiful roads with the accompanying scenic views and typical German villages. The route will take you further back to the Mosel and back to the hotel.
This day route is only for the 5-day trip.
