What a start to the season

Imagine in January; it is raining and freezing cold in NL and at 3 hours flight a beautiful BMW is waiting and a lovely hotel on t beach is reserved with pool and especially sun! I didn't have to think about that for long. We left Eindhoven at 7:45 a.m. and at 10:30 a.m. we were sitting in the sun on 2 brand new GSs. I don't have to explain to you how nice that feels when the 1st km's slide under you. In January, temperatures are around 15°C in the Algarve with peaks of 18°C. In the morning it can still be chilly, but when the sun shines it is lovely. And it did a lot! We even took a belated New Year's dip in the sea! The routes and roads are fantastic (it's Horizon huh 😉 ) with great nature parks where you don't meet a dog and one bend after another is strung together. Food and drinks are not expensive inland, for €0,80 an espresso and for lunch you are done for €10 with the 2 of you. In general, the roads are great and the asphalt has enough grip for a nice sporty drive. Lots of curves, few hairpin turns, but mostly rolling hills in beautiful varied landscapes. The hotel is located on the coast in a tourist area and there are still plenty of restaurants open to eat nice and cheap. From steakhouse to pizza and supermarket it is all within walking distance. After handing in the motorcycles at Herz the last night is in Faro from where you can walk to the airport in 15 minutes and you have really driven all the beautiful roads in the Algarve. Tip1: Put on your motorcycle jacket on the outward journey and possibly your helmet on the plane. At Herz you may leave your (empty) suitcase. Just make sure everything fits in the cases of the GS 😉 Tip2: book your flight early as soon as these come online then they go away for a trifle.
